Wordie Wednesday--October Breast Cancer Awareness freebie

Always Hope
designed by Feathers in the Nest

Wednesday~~~ a BUSY day! A good kind of busy where the day really went by fast.
Last year I designed this one for October, Breast Cancer Awareness month and thought I would re-post it for newcomers.

If you love all things pink, and all things, women's health advocacy, just thought I'd share.
Last time I went into Joanne's Fabrics store, I was so thrilled to see all the pink and breast cancer awareness stitching supplies, cases, measuring tapes, needle holders, etc.
I think all of us can think of at least one person who has crossed our journey that has unfortunately, been touched with this disease. Continued research for a cure is so much needed still.

I would love to see pics of any finishes. I've still myself not stitched this even after a year! My bad! ;p
But my goal is to stitch up a model. Knowing me, I may change a stitch or two when fiber meets fabric but this was an interpretation I felt inspired to design last year.

One of my main preceptors years and years ago when I finished women's health NP school, was diagnosed herself with breast cancer. It touched my life in a way I can't describe. We worked close together, she was a mentor and we spent at least an hour a week going to rural clinics together. But as with alot of women, including myself, we care for others problems first, and then we go take care of ourselves. With her, it was way too late.
Within 6 months we were all attending her funeral instead of laughing and mentoring together.
She definitey though in her short lifetime, left an imprint upon mine. We all remember her not in sadness but we celebrated her life just like she would have wanted us to.

As this is totally random today.......I thought I would repost. I put some personal symbolism in this sampler. Initials and dates can be changed in memory of or honor of a survivor or yourself.

I occasionally do clinical precepting and I think as I reflected on the day this evening, I thought of my friend/mentor in my own program 20 years ago and remember how well we worked together and we both learned alot from our friendship.

I look forward to having a traditional PINK scissor giveaway next month as well. Stay-tuned if you like PINK.
I'm thinking of designing a smaller design for October as well.

I hope your midweek is well. Hang on for a-l-m-o-s-t Friday!!!!!

With lots of love,
Jennifer

PS. Totally random..........I'm eating pink yogurt right now.....strawberry while putting this post up. ;0

Raising the Flag on Remembrance

I remember distinctly, as many Americans do, of what I was doing, where I was, and the circumstances as I heard the news on September 11, 2001. It will be a moment in history, a day, which was surreal as we stood watching the horrific events unfolding in all places hit by the terrorists who literally tried to fracture America.

It was a time and still is, especially each year on this anniversary to remember all the families and victims of this event and say a special prayer for them. This year, 9/11 fell on a day I have off, and I was able to watch the replays and the ceremonies in remembrance in New York, Washington, the Pentagon and the site where the heroic plane went down.

I still have chills to this day of how much a country with such terroristic beliefs, embeds their hatefulness to America.
As the names were read this morning on TV, it took 3 hours to announce them all and through that I picked up my Battle Hymn of the Republic sampler by Little House Needleworks and continue to stitch.
I stitched and stiched until I was determine to put at least one flag up. I have basted the Lakeside linen on my thrift store find/ frame of last week. I have to say, I really like it. Basic, simple.

This design is already designated to be framed and will have a special place on the wall in Mr. Darcy's home office as he dedicated 25 years of service to this country with several deployments due to 9/11.

I must leave this design right now to do some other chores today but hope to get back to finishing this flag and the other one by midnight tonight. I want to remember when I see this in his office that these flags were stitched on 9/11/2012.

Here are the new Storklette scissors by Kelmscott Designs still waiting for a new home, along with a beautiful sampler pattern. See side bar for the post to the giveaway which will end in 4 days.

Mr. Darcy is hard at work on the Hoosier cabinet and restoring it, it's looking beautiful. More pics to come.......totally sanded all the paint off the cabinet and will paint the inside white and the outside, stained to Special Walnut shade. We were both amazed at the quality of the wood underneath all the layers of old paint. We are then going to put black hinges and handles back on the doors.

Onward now to do some chores on my list of "things to do" that must get done today.
So glad you spent a few minutes with me today. I always look forward to your comments!
I think I've half-way straightened out the blog format for now.
Thank you so much for all the feedback. It helped me alot!

Yeppers, I can't find the comments section on each post. If anyone knows how to do this on this format of Google, please help!!!!!  I'm sure it's somewhere. I appreciate all feedback on how it's appearing as I work on this! Thanks so much for letting me know. I may go to another format. Please don't hesitate to let me know how it works for you.

Change of Seasons/ Change in Blogging Format

I totally have spent a while formating this blog. I'm not sure I like the look and according to Google Blogger it's going to make even more changes in the coming days. I don't know what that means but anyways, this is set up in tile format. You actually can view freebies easier and click on any picture while will pop up the entire post.

Slide over to the extreme right and click on anything that is usually on there, including "about me", "followers", translations, etc.

I'll try this format for a few days and see how it goes.

I hope you are having a restful Sunday so far. The North Georgia mountain weather has definitely changed to much cooler nights, and drier air. Bright and sunny today and supposed to be for the week!!!
Pot Roast and potatoes cooked in the slow cooker last night and today I hope to get alot of rest. The fireplace is all cleaned out now and ready to begin Fall warming by fireside at the homestead.
Yesterday was quite busy with household chores and such and I felt 95 when I woke up this morning from all the busy things I had to do.

If you remember the old Hoosier cabinet I've had for about 3 years now, Mr. Darcy and I are going to refurbish this on Tuesday this week. Pictures forthcoming.
We've contemplated many ways to reburbish, paint or stain???
I think we are going to stain the outside and paint he inside of it.
I'm hoping that these original bakelite handles come clean with some paint thinner.

Happy stitching!
